The Shepherds Hut

Over the summer I undertook a commission to build a Shepherds Hut. The client Henry was adamant that it was built to look as traditional as possible. Through a good deal of research, planning, ideas sharing and careful material sourcing the end result is exactly what he had envisioned. Result! Scroll down to see the stage by stage building process.

Outdoor Restaurant Garden

The team at Carousel desired an additional 20 covers outside for the summer months and to make the most of their available outdoor space. This meant transforming a rundown disused alleyway into a bright and welcoming area for diners. 4 Meter Bench Seat with Plant Pot Compartments, 3 meter L-Shaped Raised Planter, Dividing Fence & Tables.

Pipe Dreams

Pipe Dreams Bournemouth

Charlie Piper, owner and founder of Pipe Dreams got me in to build the interior of his new head shop in Winton, Bournemouth. He wanted a rustic feel with a clean and simple finish. Using scaffolding boards I created two till desks & shelving. As well as 2 display cabinets. One with glass doors, the other with its MDF doors painted by local artists.

This was a Birthday present to my dad out in Spain. His workshop was looking a little run down and cluttered so I built him a nice solid 4 meter workbench with underneath storage for tool boxes etc.

Christmas Bits 2014

Serrano Ham Stand

These are used to hold a leg of ham in place securely to allow for easy and safe carving. You find them all over Spain, Italy and most of Europe. However they are slightly harder to come by here in the UK. Made from scratch using Monterey Cypress once again, Finished in Mineral Oil with some big coach bolts as a clamp for the trotter.     (When it has a leg of ham in it I will re-post this to give you a better idea of what its for)

Base. (60cx x 28cm) Arms. (30cm x 12cm)

Puzzle Boards

My sister came to me earlier this year and asked if I could fashion her some sort of puzzle board, to make doing Jigsaws in a small flat easier and less table surface consuming. I kept it simple, using 5.5mm ply board and 22mm batten. For the first time since I began woodworking I actually had to buy the wood! I made it large enough to accommodate puzzles up to 2000 pieces, with 4 drawers. The Drawer handles are simply rings of Hawthorne cut in half and attached with glue.

Top. 5.5mm Ply (105cx x 75cm) Bottom (100cm x 55cm)

Having made the first board, I was then commissioned to make a slightly smaller version for a friend. Big enough o accommodate 1000 piece puzzles with a width of 100cm and a depth of 55cm.

 Chopping Boards

Finally got around to photographing some more recent pieces. Here we have a selection of Chopping Boards, the lighter ones being Monterey Cypress and the darker one being Beech. Both of these woods are great to work with. Especially lovely grain with the Monterey Cypress. Finished with Mineral Oil to ensure durability, as many coats as they would take!

Oak Chopping Blocks

Thanks to Justin Higgins from Higgins Tree Care (HTC) I've recently been able to get my hands on some beautiful locally sourced English Oak. Being my first experience with Oak i decided to keep it simple and carve out some Chopping Blocks. The weight and density of this Oak makes it ideal for such purposes. The gorgeous grain finished with mineral oil ensures a long lasting smooth finish.
